It’s so lovely to be able to showcase my first hand painted silk kaftan and put it out there as a trailblazer for all the other silky garments that are floating around in my head and want to be birthed into my creative workspace. This first piece is quite a bold pattern as this photo testifies. You can see it stretched out on my frame drying. Have a look at my blog posts showing this kaftan emerging: Silk Kaftan in Pink, Fuchsia and Burgundy I created it in layers using soya wax and vibrant steam set silk dyes to bring you a lovely interplay of geometric shapes with hues of pink, fuchsia and burgundy. The measurements are approx. 110cm wide from one hand to the other outstretched, and 90cm from neck down to mid thigh. The edges are rolled and this type of silk is a lovely crepe de chine 14mm which is a good medium quality which isn’t see-through. The waist-line is gathered with a dark red band attached to the inside and which remains invisible when the ends are tied in a bow. Please treat this silk with lots of love by washing it carefully by hand using mild shampoo. Rinse until the water runs clear then roll the kaftan up in a clean towel to absorb excess moisture. Iron from the reverse with a very clean iron on a medium high setting. Place a cotton tea towel between the silk and iron if you have any doubts. I have a special iron which I use just for my silks. This garment is one size as it can be gathered tightly or loosely depending on your needs. Put lightly over your head, pull the bands and tie loosely. And then you’re ready to go. Your Silk & Art silk garment comes to you beautifully gift wrapped in a luxurious tissue paper complete with a fuchsia satin ribbon. Shipped to UK destinations by courier – for all overseas destinations, the silk is shipped by Airsure or equivalent.
