April Newsletter 2013

Hello everyone and welcome back to the Silk & Art newsletter.

Just to fill you in on what’s been happening: I left you last time with some possible workshop dates. I got so many individual requests that in the end I was unable to pull the threads together to create an event and so I decided not to go ahead in the Easter period.

What I have decided to do now is as follows. I will be holding 2 small workshops, one in May and the other in June. I will take 4 people at a time and will be holding the events in my home again. The benefit of this is that I have everything there we need. And I can take my time tidying up afterwards. No rush to vacate the room. One of them will be a one-day workshop and the other will be a 2 day event including steaming which will enable you to take everything home with you on the Sunday afternoon.

There’s been a lot happening in the arena of wearables. Since we last connected I’ve started moving beyond only creating silk scarves – I’ve now made some pretty individual pieces of clothing. I found a local seamstress to work with me and so far I have created some bright and colourful ponchos as well as a top and some comfortable lounge pants. I will be listing everything soon and hope to have these all on offer as bespoke creations.

Watch out too for the first kaftans and then after that, there are so many ideas…you’ll see them all as I unroll them, literally.

I had great fun creating some a lovely length of fabric which is waiting to be sewn into something very pretty. Batik again, which has really become my favourite. I adore the layering. Here’s an image to let you see what I made.

Luckily I got a lovely sunny day to jump outside and model the lounge pants in. Here is the first pair I made for myself in crepe de chine silk with a gold, orange and pink abstract design. Super comfortable. You’ll be able to order bespoke lounge pants from me very soon now.

I posted photos of my first poncho a couple of weeks ago and am expecting another couple to arrive by the weekend. One in gorgeous pink and the other in vibrant purple. There are going to be many more to follow.

I had some major hitches regarding getting the mandala oracle cards published. It looked like I was going ahead with a US company but all sorts of other costs came into play and of course the US shipping costs rose by quite a bit.

So I had to pull the plug on that and find an alternative publisher. It looks like we have got a feasible solution in the UK, surprisingly enough.

I will be following this up and hope to be able to move ahead with the order in the next few days.

I will send an update as soon as we have got that project moving. The booklet will be a download in order to keep the costs lower to start with. When I become famous with my publications I will be able to have the booklets printed and included in the box in the large runs.

I continue to add things to the new Silk & Art Website. As those of you who have launched websites know, it is a big job and one that actually never ends. I will enjoy publishing more and more material for you and am happy to have the dedicated blog there too, where I can share photos of how I created my silk artwork for you.

Thanks so much for stopping by. If you’d like to take part in a workshop, please get in touch soon. I’d love to work with you and help you to have an amazingly creative time.

And don’t forget to leave any comments. It’s always lovely to hear from you.

Warm wishes to all of you

Fiona x

  1. Love the new wearables, Fiona! I’m glad you’re having fun with batik… there are so many possibilities. Best of luck with your classes :)

I so love your work. Your Mandalas and now your new products are truly amazing. I did a Workshop with you when you lived near Portmarnock a few years ago and really enjoyed it. So sorry you went so far away or I would have done more of your workshops. Best of luck and really looking forward to those cards. Muriel

Thank you Muriel and so lovely to hear from you again. Who knows, maybe I can do a workshop some time again in Ireland. And I’ll definitely keep you in the loop with the oracle cards. I’m excited. x
